In this remake, the nationalities of both families have been changed to American and British
Line of Events
A family is invited to spend an entire weekend at a lonely house in the countryside, but as the weekend progresses, they realize there’s a dark side to the family that invited them. James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis share what elements of their characters they found most intriguing and compliment each other as they discuss their different approaches to the craft. The story is inspired by the experiences of Christian Tafdrup, director of the original Danish film Speak No Evil (2022), who befriended a Dutch couple while on vacation in Tuscany with his wife. Although the Dutch were a bit socially awkward, the two couples got along very well, and upon returning home, Tafdrup received an invitation from the Dutch family to come to the Netherlands. He briefly considered it, but decided that he would feel awkward staying with people he didn’t really know; his story for the film came about when he let out his darkest fantasies about what could have happened, and he accepted (although he maintained that the original Dutch couple never gave off any negative vibes).

The main difference?
Finally, a victory for Blumhouse after a year of middling films and outright duds. Who would have thought that the studio’s saving grace would be an American remake of a film that is only two years old and is already 80% in English? But here we are. This version is infinitely better, less frustrating and dare I say, downright satisfying, James McAvoy – what a powerhouse. Honestly, put this guy in every horror movie from now on, especially if he’s the villain.
The biggest improvement?
He’s so good at it that you can almost hear him whispering, “Watch me steal every damn scene.” And of course, he does. Every. Time. Speak No Evil is easily one of the best horror movies of the year, in my opinion. Characters who actually deserve to root for.

Well, okay, they’re a little dumb in the first third, but at least they get smarter before you lose all hope, except for one particular individual. Blumhouse, take a bow—you finally did something right! The final season of “What We Do in the Shadows” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres of this month.
